From the Race Director…

The GCI and Nye Frontier Family Arctic Man is a unique event that has grown to be one of the major winter events held within the state of Alaska wilderness. The 2007 GCI and Nye Frontier Family Arctic Man is the 22nd anniversary, that’s twenty-two years of adrenaline rush and speed.

The main event is scheduled for Friday, April 13, again we are hoping for good weather. We will use April 14 & 15 as back up dates. Following the GCI and Nye Frontier Family Arctic Man we will have a Hillcross uphill from the Arctic Man Finish Line. This will be just as exciting as the Hillcross last year. This and the Sno-Cross planned for Saturday are organized by the AMMC. We want to thank Chris and Kent Harrington and their crew for all their work.

Communication at the Arctic Man has always been a major challenge throughout the past 21 years. This year, John with KMBQ 99.7, the Official Arctic Man Radio Station, is working with Marty James, our announcer, to get our 107.5 FM station working. If this happens, you can all sit in your motor homes or campers and listen to music and information. We are going to try and also give race times during the Arctic Man. Bring your small FM radios and we will try one more time.

This event has come a long way in 22 years. We want to thank all of our sponsors, racers, volunteers, and helpers for making the GCI and Nye Frontier Family Arctic Man such a great success. I also want to thank Arctic Bears Hockey teams for helping with the parking this year. But, most of all, we want to thank all the spectators for coming back year after year!

We again have a huge snowfall this year in the mountains. Please, we all want to be careful. Watch for dangerous snow situations, large snow packs, edges, and tight valleys. BE CAREFUL!

We are going to work very hard to make sure that SAFETY and COMMON SENSE are a priority. We have our own security to help you with any problems; please use them if you need them. We have our own medic staff to help with first aid problems; please use them. Alaska State Troopers will also be on site to help; we want to also thank them for their support.

Thank you and

Have a Safe & Good Time,

Howie Thies

Race Director
